Sir Uwaine

Morgan le Fay's son, banished for his mother's crimes, and the best-tempered knight in the book.

Uwaine is exiled from court merely for being Morgan's son, after her attempt on Arthur's life; Gawain, disgusted, leaves with him. He is the French Yvain, hero of Chretien's finest romance, where he wins a lady by killing her husband, loses her by forgetting a promise, goes mad in a forest, and rebuilds himself by rescuing a lion from a serpent — after which the lion follows him for the rest of the poem.
