Act 4, Scene 3

The same.

  1. [Enter EGLAMOUR.]
  2. Eglamour
  3. 1686 This is the hour that Madam Silvia
  4. 1687 Entreated me to call and know her mind:
  5. 1688 There's some great matter she'd employ me in.
  6. 1689 Madam, madam!
  7. [Enter SILVIA above, at her window.]
  8. Silvia
  9. 1690 Who calls?
  10. Eglamour
  11. 1691 Your servant and your friend;
  12. 1692 One that attends your ladyship's command.
  13. Silvia
  14. 1693 Sir Eglamour, a thousand times good morrow.
  15. Eglamour
  16. 1694 As many, worthy lady, to yourself.
  17. 1695 According to your ladyship's impose,
  18. 1696 I am thus early come to know what service
  19. 1697 It is your pleasure to command me in.
  20. Silvia
  21. 1698 O Eglamour, thou art a gentleman—
  22. 1699 Think not I flatter, for I swear I do not—
  23. 1700 Valiant, wise, remorseful, well accomplish'd.
  24. 1701 Thou art not ignorant what dear good will
  25. 1702 I bear unto the banish'd Valentine;
  26. 1703 Nor how my father would enforce me marry
  27. 1704 Vain Thurio, whom my very soul abhors.
  28. 1705 Thyself hast lov'd; and I have heard thee say
  29. 1706 No grief did ever come so near thy heart
  30. 1707 As when thy lady and thy true love died,
  31. 1708 Upon whose grave thou vow'dst pure chastity.
  32. 1709 Sir Eglamour, I would to Valentine,
  33. 1710 To Mantua, where I hear he makes abode;
  34. 1711 And, for the ways are dangerous to pass,
  35. 1712 I do desire thy worthy company,
  36. 1713 Upon whose faith and honour I repose.
  37. 1714 Urge not my father's anger, Eglamour,
  38. 1715 But think upon my grief, a lady's grief,
  39. 1716 And on the justice of my flying hence,
  40. 1717 To keep me from a most unholy match,
  41. 1718 Which heaven and fortune still rewards with plagues.
  42. 1719 I do desire thee, even from a heart
  43. 1720 As full of sorrows as the sea of sands,
  44. 1721 To bear me company and go with me;
  45. 1722 If not, to hide what I have said to thee,
  46. 1723 That I may venture to depart alone.
  47. Eglamour
  48. 1724 Madam, I pity much your grievances;
  49. 1725 Which since I know they virtuously are plac'd,
  50. 1726 I give consent to go along with you,
  51. 1727 Recking as little what betideth me
  52. 1728 As much I wish all good befortune you.
  53. 1729 When will you go?
  54. Silvia
  55. 1730 This evening coming.
  56. Eglamour
  57. 1731 Where shall I meet you?
  58. Silvia
  59. 1732 At Friar Patrick's cell,
  60. 1733 Where I intend holy confession.
  61. Eglamour
  62. 1734 I will not fail your ladyship. Good morrow, gentle lady.
  63. Silvia
  64. 1735 Good morrow, kind Sir Eglamour.
  65. [Exeunt severally.]
