Act 4, Scene 3
The same.
- [Enter EGLAMOUR.]
- Eglamour
- 1686 This is the hour that Madam Silvia
- 1687 Entreated me to call and know her mind:
- 1688 There's some great matter she'd employ me in.
- 1689 Madam, madam!
- [Enter SILVIA above, at her window.]
- Silvia
- 1690 Who calls?
- Eglamour
- 1691 Your servant and your friend;
- 1692 One that attends your ladyship's command.
- Silvia
- 1693 Sir Eglamour, a thousand times good morrow.
- Eglamour
- 1694 As many, worthy lady, to yourself.
- 1695 According to your ladyship's impose,
- 1696 I am thus early come to know what service
- 1697 It is your pleasure to command me in.
- Silvia
- 1698 O Eglamour, thou art a gentleman—
- 1699 Think not I flatter, for I swear I do not—
- 1700 Valiant, wise, remorseful, well accomplish'd.
- 1701 Thou art not ignorant what dear good will
- 1702 I bear unto the banish'd Valentine;
- 1703 Nor how my father would enforce me marry
- 1704 Vain Thurio, whom my very soul abhors.
- 1705 Thyself hast lov'd; and I have heard thee say
- 1706 No grief did ever come so near thy heart
- 1707 As when thy lady and thy true love died,
- 1708 Upon whose grave thou vow'dst pure chastity.
- 1709 Sir Eglamour, I would to Valentine,
- 1710 To Mantua, where I hear he makes abode;
- 1711 And, for the ways are dangerous to pass,
- 1712 I do desire thy worthy company,
- 1713 Upon whose faith and honour I repose.
- 1714 Urge not my father's anger, Eglamour,
- 1715 But think upon my grief, a lady's grief,
- 1716 And on the justice of my flying hence,
- 1717 To keep me from a most unholy match,
- 1718 Which heaven and fortune still rewards with plagues.
- 1719 I do desire thee, even from a heart
- 1720 As full of sorrows as the sea of sands,
- 1721 To bear me company and go with me;
- 1722 If not, to hide what I have said to thee,
- 1723 That I may venture to depart alone.
- Eglamour
- 1724 Madam, I pity much your grievances;
- 1725 Which since I know they virtuously are plac'd,
- 1726 I give consent to go along with you,
- 1727 Recking as little what betideth me
- 1728 As much I wish all good befortune you.
- 1729 When will you go?
- Silvia
- 1730 This evening coming.
- Eglamour
- 1731 Where shall I meet you?
- Silvia
- 1732 At Friar Patrick's cell,
- 1733 Where I intend holy confession.
- Eglamour
- 1734 I will not fail your ladyship. Good morrow, gentle lady.
- Silvia
- 1735 Good morrow, kind Sir Eglamour.
- [Exeunt severally.]
