Act 5, Scene 2
Before the walls of Athens.
- [Enter two other SENATORS with a MESSENGER.]
- First Senator
- 2288 Thou hast painfully discover'd; are his files
- 2289 As full as thy report?
- Messenger
- 2290 I have spoke the least.
- 2291 Besides, his expedition promises
- 2292 Present approach.
- Second Senator
- 2293 We stand much hazard if they bring not Timon.
- Messenger
- 2294 I met a courier, one mine ancient friend,
- 2295 Whom, though in general part we were oppos'd,
- 2296 Yet our old love had a particular force,
- 2297 And made us speak like friends. This man was riding
- 2298 From Alcibiades to Timon's cave
- 2299 With letters of entreaty, which imported
- 2300 His fellowship i' the cause against your city,
- 2301 In part for his sake mov'd.
- [Enter the other SENATORS, from TIMON.]
- First Senator
- 2302 Here come our brothers.
- Third Senator
- 2303 No talk of Timon, nothing of him expect.
- 2304 The enemies' drum is heard, and fearful scouring
- 2305 Doth choke the air with dust. In, and prepare.
- 2306 Ours is the fall, I fear; our foes the snare.
- [Exeunt.]
