Act 2, Scene 3

A street near the Capitol.

  1. [Enter Artemidorus, reading paper.]
  2. Artemidorus
  3. 1054 "Caesar, beware of Brutus; take heed of Cassius; come
  4. 1055 not near Casca; have an eye to Cinna; trust not Trebonius; mark
  5. 1056 well Metellus Cimber; Decius Brutus loves thee not; thou hast
  6. 1057 wrong'd Caius Ligarius. There is but one mind in all these men,
  7. 1058 and it is bent against Caesar. If thou be'st not immortal, look
  8. 1059 about you: security gives way to conspiracy. The mighty gods
  9. 1060 defend thee!
  10. 1061 Thy lover, Artemidorus."
  11. 1062 Here will I stand till Caesar pass along,
  12. 1063 And as a suitor will I give him this.
  13. 1064 My heart laments that virtue cannot live
  14. 1065 Out of the teeth of emulation.—
  15. 1066 If thou read this, O Caesar, thou mayest live;
  16. 1067 If not, the Fates with traitors do contrive.
  17. [Exit.]
