Act 5, Scene 3
Another Part of the Field
- [Flourish. Enter KING EDWARD in triumph; with CLARENCE, GLOSTER, and the rest.]
- Edward IV
- 2601 Thus far our fortune keeps an upward course,
- 2602 And we are grac'd with wreaths of victory.
- 2603 But, in the midst of this bright-shining day,
- 2604 I spy a black, suspicious, threatEning cloud,
- 2605 That will encounter with our glorious sun
- 2606 Ere he attain his easeful western bed.
- 2607 I mean, my lords, those powers that the Queen
- 2608 Hath rais'd in Gallia have arriv'd our coast
- 2609 And, as we hear, march on to fight with us.
- George, Duke of Clarence
- 2610 A little gale will soon disperse that cloud
- 2611 And blow it to the source from whence it came;
- 2612 Thy very beams will dry those vapours up,
- 2613 For every cloud engenders not a storm.
- Richard Plantagenet (Gloucester)
- 2614 The queen is valued thirty thousand strong,
- 2615 And Somerset, with Oxford, fled to her;
- 2616 If she have time to breathe, be well assur'd,
- 2617 Her faction will be full as strong as ours.
- Edward IV
- 2618 We are advertis'd by our loving friends
- 2619 That they do hold their course toward Tewkesbury.
- 2620 We, having now the best at Barnet field,
- 2621 Will thither straight, for willingness rids way;
- 2622 And, as we march, our strength will be augmented
- 2623 In every county as we go along.—
- 2624 Strike up the drum! cry 'Courage!' and away.
- [Exeunt.]
