Act 5, Scene 3

Another Part of the Field

  1. [Flourish. Enter KING EDWARD in triumph; with CLARENCE, GLOSTER, and the rest.]
  2. Edward IV
  3. 2601 Thus far our fortune keeps an upward course,
  4. 2602 And we are grac'd with wreaths of victory.
  5. 2603 But, in the midst of this bright-shining day,
  6. 2604 I spy a black, suspicious, threatEning cloud,
  7. 2605 That will encounter with our glorious sun
  8. 2606 Ere he attain his easeful western bed.
  9. 2607 I mean, my lords, those powers that the Queen
  10. 2608 Hath rais'd in Gallia have arriv'd our coast
  11. 2609 And, as we hear, march on to fight with us.
  12. George, Duke of Clarence
  13. 2610 A little gale will soon disperse that cloud
  14. 2611 And blow it to the source from whence it came;
  15. 2612 Thy very beams will dry those vapours up,
  16. 2613 For every cloud engenders not a storm.
  17. Richard Plantagenet (Gloucester)
  18. 2614 The queen is valued thirty thousand strong,
  19. 2615 And Somerset, with Oxford, fled to her;
  20. 2616 If she have time to breathe, be well assur'd,
  21. 2617 Her faction will be full as strong as ours.
  22. Edward IV
  23. 2618 We are advertis'd by our loving friends
  24. 2619 That they do hold their course toward Tewkesbury.
  25. 2620 We, having now the best at Barnet field,
  26. 2621 Will thither straight, for willingness rids way;
  27. 2622 And, as we march, our strength will be augmented
  28. 2623 In every county as we go along.—
  29. 2624 Strike up the drum! cry 'Courage!' and away.
  30. [Exeunt.]
