Act 1, Scene 5

Within Corioli. A street.

  1. [Enter certain Romans, with spoils.]
  2. Romans
  3. 510 This will I carry to Rome.
  4. Romans
  5. 511 And I this.
  6. Romans
  7. 512 A murrain on't! I took this for silver.
  8. [Alarum continues still afar off.]
  9. [Enter MARCIUS and TITUS LARTIUS with a trumpet.]
  10. Caius Marcius Coriolanus
  11. 513 See here these movers that do prize their hours
  12. 514 At a crack'd drachma! Cushions, leaden spoons,
  13. 515 Irons of a doit, doublets that hangmen would
  14. 516 Bury with those that wore them, these base slaves,
  15. 517 Ere yet the fight be done, pack up:—down with them!—
  16. 518 And hark, what noise the general makes!—To him!—
  17. 519 There is the man of my soul's hate, Aufidius,
  18. 520 Piercing our Romans; then, valiant Titus, take
  19. 521 Convenient numbers to make good the city;
  20. 522 Whilst I, with those that have the spirit, will haste
  21. 523 To help Cominius.
  22. Titus Lartius
  23. 524 Worthy sir, thou bleed'st;
  24. 525 Thy exercise hath been too violent
  25. 526 For a second course of fight.
  26. Caius Marcius Coriolanus
  27. 527 Sir, praise me not;
  28. 528 My work hath yet not warm'd me: fare you well;
  29. 529 The blood I drop is rather physical
  30. 530 Than dangerous to me: to Aufidius thus
  31. 531 I will appear, and fight.
  32. Titus Lartius
  33. 532 Now the fair goddess, Fortune,
  34. 533 Fall deep in love with thee; and her great charms
  35. 534 Misguide thy opposers' swords! Bold gentleman,
  36. 535 Prosperity be thy page!
  37. Caius Marcius Coriolanus
  38. 536 Thy friend no less
  39. 537 Than those she placeth highest!—So farewell.
  40. Titus Lartius
  41. 538 Thou worthiest Marcius!—
  42. [Exit MARCIUS.]
  43. Titus Lartius
  44. 539 Go, sound thy trumpet in the market-place;
  45. 540 Call thither all the officers o' the town,
  46. 541 Where they shall know our mind: away!
  47. [Exeunt.]
