Act 1, Scene 5
Within Corioli. A street.
- [Enter certain Romans, with spoils.]
- Romans
- 510 This will I carry to Rome.
- Romans
- 511 And I this.
- Romans
- 512 A murrain on't! I took this for silver.
- [Alarum continues still afar off.]
- [Enter MARCIUS and TITUS LARTIUS with a trumpet.]
- Caius Marcius Coriolanus
- 513 See here these movers that do prize their hours
- 514 At a crack'd drachma! Cushions, leaden spoons,
- 515 Irons of a doit, doublets that hangmen would
- 516 Bury with those that wore them, these base slaves,
- 517 Ere yet the fight be done, pack up:—down with them!—
- 518 And hark, what noise the general makes!—To him!—
- 519 There is the man of my soul's hate, Aufidius,
- 520 Piercing our Romans; then, valiant Titus, take
- 521 Convenient numbers to make good the city;
- 522 Whilst I, with those that have the spirit, will haste
- 523 To help Cominius.
- Titus Lartius
- 524 Worthy sir, thou bleed'st;
- 525 Thy exercise hath been too violent
- 526 For a second course of fight.
- Caius Marcius Coriolanus
- 527 Sir, praise me not;
- 528 My work hath yet not warm'd me: fare you well;
- 529 The blood I drop is rather physical
- 530 Than dangerous to me: to Aufidius thus
- 531 I will appear, and fight.
- Titus Lartius
- 532 Now the fair goddess, Fortune,
- 533 Fall deep in love with thee; and her great charms
- 534 Misguide thy opposers' swords! Bold gentleman,
- 535 Prosperity be thy page!
- Caius Marcius Coriolanus
- 536 Thy friend no less
- 537 Than those she placeth highest!—So farewell.
- Titus Lartius
- 538 Thou worthiest Marcius!—
- [Exit MARCIUS.]
- Titus Lartius
- 539 Go, sound thy trumpet in the market-place;
- 540 Call thither all the officers o' the town,
- 541 Where they shall know our mind: away!
- [Exeunt.]
