Act 4, Scene 9

CAESAR'S camp.

  1. [Sentinels at their Post.]
  2. First Soldier
  3. 2607 If we be not reliev'd within this hour,
  4. 2608 We must return to thecourt of guard: the night
  5. 2609 Is shiny; and they say we shall embattle
  6. 2610 By the second hour i' the morn.
  7. Second Soldier
  8. 2611 This last day was
  9. 2612 A shrewd one to's.
  10. [Enter ENOBARBUS.]
  11. Enobarbus
  12. 2613 O, bear me witness, night.—
  13. Third Soldier
  14. 2614 What man is this?
  15. Second Soldier
  16. 2615 Stand close and list him.
  17. Enobarbus
  18. 2616 Be witness to me, O thou blessed moon,
  19. 2617 When men revolted shall upon record
  20. 2618 Bear hateful memory, poor Enobarbus did
  21. 2619 Before thy face repent!—
  22. First Soldier
  23. 2620 Enobarbus!
  24. Third Soldier
  25. 2621 Peace!
  26. 2622 Hark further.
  27. Enobarbus
  28. 2623 O sovereign mistress of true melancholy,
  29. 2624 The poisonous damp of night disponge upon me,
  30. 2625 That life, a very rebel to my will,
  31. 2626 May hang no longer on me: throw my heart
  32. 2627 Against the flint and hardness of my fault;
  33. 2628 Which, being dried with grief, will break to powder,
  34. 2629 And finish all foul thoughts. O Antony,
  35. 2630 Nobler than my revolt is infamous,
  36. 2631 Forgive me in thine own particular;
  37. 2632 But let the world rank me in register
  38. 2633 A master-leaver and a fugitive:
  39. 2634 O Antony! O Antony!
  40. [Dies.]
  41. Second Soldier
  42. 2635 Let's speak to him.
  43. First Soldier
  44. 2636 Let's hear him, for the things he speaks
  45. 2637 May concern Caesar.
  46. Third Soldier
  47. 2638 Let's do so. But he sleeps.
  48. First Soldier
  49. 2639 Swoons rather; for so bad a prayer as his
  50. 2640 Was never yet fore sleep.
  51. Second Soldier
  52. 2641 Go we to him.
  53. Third Soldier
  54. 2642 Awake, sir, awake; speak to us.
  55. Second Soldier
  56. 2643 Hear you, sir?
  57. First Soldier
  58. 2644 The hand of death hath raught him.
  59. [Drums afar off.]
  60. First Soldier
  61. 2645 Hark! the drums
  62. 2646 Do merrily wake the sleepers. Let us bear him
  63. 2647 To the court of guard; he is of note: our hour
  64. 2648 Is fully out.
  65. Third Soldier
  66. 2649 Come on, then;
  67. 2650 He may recover yet.
  68. [Exeunt with the body.]
